Finalizing Transatlantic Voyage '23/'24

Updated: May 11, 2023

Starting in September ‘23, we intend to undertake an exploration adventure by sailing with our S/V Legato from Greece to the Caribbean. This voyage is a long overdue dream that had to be postponed for many years, due to family and professional obligations. These are still present, but the voyage cannot wait any longer.

Without looking for help in any particular area, we would be glad to be joined by one or two like minded sailors, purely for sharing this experience (unpaid positions). If you are interested in joining us, read on.

To make things easier for all crew, we have split the voyage in several smaller routes, while each point of embarkation/ disembarkation has an international airport. Depending on space availability, you may join us for more than a single route:

  1. Athens, Greece to Cagliari, Sardinia - first half of September ’23. Intermediate exploration stops in Sicily at Taormina, Messina, Milazzo, Cefalu, Palermo, Capo San Vito, Trapani, Marettimo. -- CREW COMPLETE --

  2. Cagliari, Sardinia to Gibraltar - second half of September ’23. Intermediate exploration stops in Teulada (Sardinia), Carloforte (Isola di San Pietro), Mahon (Menorca), P. Santa Eulalia (Ibiza), Cartagena (Spain), Agadulce (close to Almeria), P. Caleta de Velez (close to Malaga). -- CREW COMPLETE --

  3. Gibraltar to Gran Canaria via Madeira - October ’23. Intermediate exploration stops at the Atlantic islands of Porto Santo, Madeira, La Palma, La Gomera, Tenerife. -- CREW COMPLETE --

  4. Gan Canaria to Grenada (Caribbean) via Cape Verde, with participation in the transatlantic rally ARCplus - November 2023. One week to Cape Verde (intermediary stop to explore) and two weeks to Grenada. -- CREW COMPLETE --

  5. Spend the season exploring the Caribbean islands.

  6. During April, as soon as weather permits, depart for Gibraltar with stops in Bermuda and the Azores. Departure date might be as late as early May, in such case with participation in ARC Europe transatlantic rally.

  7. Back to Greece from Gibraltar, probably following a variation of inverted route (2), then (1).

The pace of this voyage is more demanding than your average cruising vacation since we need to cover many miles each day, but it is not a delivery trip either as we intend to stop at night when there is land, and probably spend the next day relaxing or exploring.
