Abandon Yacht

If nothing else works and it is no longer safe to remain on board, then it is time to abandon. For this situation we have a large (8 person) liferaft secured in the lazarette. The liferaft is compatible with the ISO 9650-1 standard, and includes water and medical provisions.

The yacht’s EPIRB will follow us on the liferaft, but this doesn’t provide 2-way communication while our existing satellite system is not portable. To this effect we also have a Garmin InReach Mini2 device that works with Iridium satellites and allows 2-way communication with resue services and any other mobile phones in the form of text messages.
