Man Overboard
Nobody want to fall overboard. Legato is very easy to sail from the cockpit, and it is only on rare occasions that a crew member may have to leave the cockpit, for example to secure the 3rd or 4rth reef or to put in place/ remove the whisker pole. For these occasions, two continuous lifelines have been secured near the bow and stern, which do not constrain the movement fore-and-aft. Clipping points exist at the helm and mast. Safety harnesses are combined with the life jackets, and tethers have dual lengths, secure hooks, and overload indicators.
For a man overboard situation, the most critical tasks are for the remaining crew to be immediately alerted, and to identify the MOB’s exact location for recovery even in rough seas. To this effect, each life jacket on Legato includes an OceanLink MOB1 device which will:
-
raise an alarm on Legato via the VHF DHC. In addition to the helm station, an external 90db siren has been placed inside the saloon so that all crew becomes immediately aware of the danger.
-
send the MOB’s exact GPS location on the yacht’s chartplotter
-
flash a strong strobe light for visual identification of the MOB.
