Not all days are paradise in sailing!
It all started by observing a nasty cut in our mainsail. We had to bring it down, but repair with patches in big waves and solid wind gave poor results. In the evening a heavy rain storm with wind gusts caught on us, and part of the poorly placed patches got blown away. So the mainsail had to be taken down again with no question of rapairing it in the middle of the night and under heavy rain.
But motoring in big seas was no fun either. I got heavily seasick and we decided to progress at half speed to minimize banging on the waves in the abscence of sails.
Moreover in the previous day while loosely chatting on deck, one of our crew observed in awe that we where actually dragging our spinnaker behind us in the sea, as the halyard swivel decided to end its (brief) career! As a result, no more spinnaker and no more C0 sail. But Selden (manufacturer) and Quantum sails is Greece were kind enough to promise sending us a replacement in Cartagena under their warranty. Let's hope for the timely delivery process...
The next morning we attempted a second mainsail repair, this worked far better and we were back in business! We also attempted to hoist our C0 sail without the furler, this was rather disastrous as a process although it worked in the end.
But the 6h delays so far meant that we would arrive in unknown Menorca in complete darkness, something we would rather avoid. So we deliberately slowed down again in order to arrive at sunrise. My seasickness never went away...
